However, the increased demands on pathophysiology and treatment of chest diseases, perpetual and over-specified technological developments and the attitude of health providers for the highest quality of health services, drive to the fact that, the involvement and specialization in a single (or a part of) division it is necessary today and therefore has been established worldwide in advanced health systems. In this sense, the thoracic surgeon Athanasios D. Kleontas has been methodically specialized in Thoracic Surgery and now deals mainly with the diagnostic approach, surgical treatment and perioperative care of chest disease and trauma, including diseases and trauma of lungs, mediastinum, pleural cavity, tracheobronchial tree, chest wall, diaphragm, esophagus and pericardium. This subject, in more detail, includes physiology, imaging techniques and functional assays of thoracic organs, surgical oncology, thoracic and especially surgical techniques applied for the treatment of chest diseases.
